I'm a mom of a wonderful, very ADD 19 yr old daughter. She has come home with 2 incomplete classes hanging over her, and thinking she does not want to go back to school for her sophomore yr at a great college, where she has a terrific scholarship and finished with a 3.3 GPA, IF she gets the classes finished up. Counselors, home and school, just seem to be frustrated with her indecisiveness. I'm not angry at her, just feel sorry for her as she prepares to blow her chances to even go back later if not this fall, with her indecisiveness and lack of motivation. She doesnt know what she wants to do, but doesnt seem to be looking. Huge denial, lots of late night blog reading on the internet. She has friends and family who love her, and we have such good times together, until this comes up, and then she refuses to discuss it, wanting to own it. In reality, it is owning her, and I wish I knew how to help her find the help she needs. The clock is ticking, and I thought just leaving her alone this sumer, letting her own the choices or lack thereof, was the right course. Now I am not so sure. Any suggestions? It seems to me that she needs a Motivation camp, like summer camp when she was younger to get her recharged about life and what she has to contribute. I don't even know who will read this, if anyone, but I hope someone has the answers for where to start. I am so tired of so-called professionals who seem to have no answers but to come back next week, and let her just go on feeling badly about herself. She has so much talent and so much to offer the world, but doesn't realize it right now.
