Integrated Listening Systems (iLs) 

Integrated Listening Systems – (iLs) is a proven therapy which combines sound, visual and movement exercises to improve attention and learning. The multi-sensory program helps train the brain to process information as well as improve the ability to self-regulate and focus. Programs are typically 2-3 months and can be done at home as well as in clinic. iLs is an enjoyable therapy which very often sees improved self-confidence along with academic and social communication improvements. Cogmed Working Memory Training

cogmed-photo3Cogmed Working Memory Training is a proven, software-based intervention, specifically designed to help children with attention deficits. The program can be done at and from your home; all that is needed is internet access and a phone. The program is directed by Rbecca Shafir M.A.CCC speech language pathologist and qualified Cogmed coach 978 287 0810 x117.  Rebecca is the Cogmed coach at the Hallowell Center Sudbury and the  Hallowell Center in NYC – 212-799-7777.)   The program is 5 weeks in duration for approximately 30 minutes 5 days a week.  Low Energy Neurofeedback System (LENS)

lensLENS (Low Energy Neurofeedback System) is a safe and non-invasive procedure that monitors and analyzes EEG (brain activity). It is an effective, non-medication approach for persons who do not tolerate medications, prefer not to use medications or who do not find medications helpful. Symptoms associated with ADHD, depression, anxiety, OCD, migraines and Asperger’s can improve significantly with LENS. Via a tiny sensor placed on the scalp the LENS system acquires brain wave information at each of 19 sites and uses that information as feedback for sending signals back to the brain to normalize brain activity. Note: As with medications, LENS is not a cure, but it can make measurable improvements in sleep, mood, energy, clarity and anxiety without the side effects typically experienced with some medications. A client can participate in LENS treatment along with medications, and in some cases LENS can help the medications work better. Furthermore, LENS enablesthe clientto use compensatory strategies with greater ease and efficiency. Heartmath at the Hallowell Centers

feeling_stressedIn coordination with cognitive therapy and/or the Low Energy Neurofeedback System we use the Heartmath emWave® PC technology to help our patients learn internal awareness, self-regulation, and emotional management skills. One can learn to prevent stress by becoming aware of when the stress response starts and stopping it in the moment.


The Learning Breakthrough Program is a series of deceptively simple balance and eye-tracking exercises for brain fitness. It builds a foundation for learning that complements other enhancement treatments including medications.  The program is done daily, at home, and strengthens brain processing through all the critical brain centers that affect ADHD, dyslexia and other learning challenges.

Used by therapists for 30 years, it is a medication-free way to provide help to those who struggle.  It consists of FUN balance activities on clinically proven equipment and is greatly aided by a follow-along DVD. Learning Breakthrough is easy to use and everyone can benefit including average and gifted students. You will experience improved efficiency in reading, writing, memory, attention, self-esteem, socialization and athletic ability…with the added benefit of improving focus for homework and other daily tasks.

Studies are showing “physical activity changes the brain”. By refining the relationship (integration) between various brain centers with Learning Breakthrough’s simple activities, learning and cognitive function are improved at a “root” level.  Please note at this time Learning Breakthrough is not available in the Hallowell Centers.
