Cogmed Working Memory Training
Cogmed Working Memory Training is a proven, software-based intervention, specifically designed to help children with attention deficits. The program can be done at and from your home; all that is needed is internet access and a phone. The program is directed by Dr. Anita Pliner, pediatric neuropsychologist. The program is 5 weeks in duration for approximately 30 minutes 5 days a week. Patients do not have to be seen at our office to participate in the program. More information about CogMed
Low Energy Neurofeedback System (LENS)
LENS (Low Energy Neurofeedback System) is a safe and non-invasive procedure that monitors and analyzes EEG (brain activity). It is an effective, non-medication approach for persons who do not tolerate medications, prefer not to use medications or who do not find medications helpful. Symptoms associated with ADHD, depression, anxiety, OCD, migraines and Asperger’s can improve significantly with LENS. Via a tiny sensor placed on the scalp the LENS system acquires brain wave information at each of 19 sites and uses that information as feedback for sending signals back to the brain to normalize brain activity. Note: As with medications, LENS is not a cure, but it can make measurable improvements in sleep, mood, energy, clarity and anxiety without the side effects typically experienced with some medications. A client can participate in LENS treatment along with medications, and in some cases LENS can help the medications work better. Furthermore, LENS enables the client to use compensatory strategies with greater ease and efficiency. Compared with traditional neurofeedback, the LENS process requires no work by the client and accomplishes improved functioning in much less time and at a much lower cost. Heartmath at the Hallowell Centers
In coordination with cognitive therapy and/or the Low Energy Neurofeedback System we use the Heartmath emWave® PC technology to help our patients learn internal awareness, self-regulation, and emotional management skills. One can learn to prevent stress by becoming aware of when the stress response starts and stopping it in the moment.
The Learning Breakthrough Program
The Learning Breakthrough Program is a series of deceptively simple balance and eye-tracking exercises for brain fitness. It builds a foundation for learning that complements other enhancement treatments including medications. The program is done daily, at home, and strengthens brain processing through all the critical brain centers that affect ADHD, dyslexia and other learning challenges.
Used by therapists for 30 years, it is a medication-free way to provide help to those who struggle. Â It consists of FUN balance activities on clinically proven equipment and is greatly aided by a follow-along DVD. Learning Breakthrough is easy to use and everyone can benefit including average and gifted students. You will experience improved efficiency in reading, writing, memory, attention, self-esteem, socialization and athletic ability…with the added benefit of improving focus for homework and other daily tasks.

Reading Plus®
Reading Plus® is a computer-based reading intervention system that uses innovative technology to provide individualized scaffolded silent reading practice for students in second grade and higher. The Reading Plus® system, designed in alignment with current reading research, develops and improves reading proficiency in students who are not responding to core interventions, and provides effective practice for students who are established readers. The seven component programs of Reading Plus® provide extensive engagement in high-success, differentiated reading activities.
Reading Plus® picks up where phonics and oral reading instruction leave off, providing rapid and sustainable comprehension and silent reading fluency gains. Through fidelity of usage, Reading Plus® develops sustained attention, word recognition automaticity, grade-appropriate reading rates, enhanced vocabulary, and improved reading comprehension. Reading Plus® provides a 20-minute computer-based placement test to determine the appropriate instructional programs and effective starting levels for each student. Instructional paths are individually defined and dynamically adjusted for each student, ensuring effective practice with activities that build attention and concentration, silent reading fluency, vocabulary enhancement, and comprehension skill mastery.
